Bank of Japan Holds Interest Rates Steady Amid Middle East Tensions Clouding Outlook

Deep News11:20

The Bank of Japan kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged as uncertainty from the Iran conflict and the resulting surge in energy prices cast a shadow over the economic outlook.

Following a two-day policy meeting that concluded on Tuesday, the central bank issued a statement indicating it would maintain the policy rate at 0.75%. This decision was in line with the expectations of approximately 80% of the 51 economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

After the announcement, the yen briefly appreciated by 0.1% against the U.S. dollar.
