Former Xiaomi Executive Wang Teng Embarks on New Venture: A Firm Stance Against Overwork Culture

Deep News01-09

On January 9, Wang Teng, the former General Manager of Xiaomi's China Region Marketing Department and General Manager of the REDMI brand, officially announced his new entrepreneurial venture. The new company is named "Today Should Rest," with the goal of developing products related to sleep health to help people achieve better energy levels.

Today, Wang Teng posted again, stating that "Today Should Rest" is a startup company, a fledgling team just getting started, and he hopes everyone will manage their expectations accordingly.

Wang Teng indicated that the company's initial focus is on building a product research and development team, with plans to gradually establish marketing, sales, service, and finance teams after the Spring Festival. Addressing why the company is not recruiting new graduates, he said, "In the early stages, a startup team更需要 individuals with work experience who can contribute immediately. We will welcome new graduates to join after the business has developed further."

"The original intention behind this venture is to help working professionals achieve better energy levels, to firmly oppose the culture of excessive competition, and to rest whenever tired. The sole requirement is to wear our product while sleeping, which also facilitates data collection."

Previously, on September 8, 2025, Xiaomi Corporation announced that an investigation had confirmed that Wang Teng, an employee of the China Region Marketing Department, had leaked confidential company information and engaged in serious misconduct including conflicts of interest. In accordance with regulations such as the "Xiaomi Group Employee Disciplinary Action Procedures" and the "Xiaomi Group Integrity and Compliance Code," the company decided to dismiss Wang Teng.

On the same day, Wang Teng responded to his dismissal from Xiaomi, stating that he was ashamed and wished to apologize, acknowledging past mistakes and accepting the consequences. He later clarified: "I did not steal and sell company secrets, nor did I accept money from anyone. There was negligence in my duties, for which I am deeply reflecting, but I did not engage in any illegal activities."
