Israel's biggest natural gas field has resumed production after a 33-day halt due to the conflict with Iran, potentially offering some relief to the supply-constrained market. According to a spokesperson for stakeholder Newmed Energy LP, the Leviathan project can now restore supplies to both domestic and export markets. This follows an announcement by Israel's energy ministry the previous day that the project's restart was imminent. The Leviathan field, a major natural gas site operated by Chevron in the Eastern Mediterranean, is critical not only for meeting Israel's local gas demand but also for Egypt. Following the outbreak of hostilities on February 28, Israel ordered the temporary closure of some gas fields for security reasons. The conflict disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and missile attacks damaged Qatar's largest liquefied natural gas plant, further tightening global market conditions.
