Musk's Lawsuit Against OpenAI Nears Jury Deliberation Phase, Microsoft Remains a Defendant

Following the conclusion of opening statements in the first phase of Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and Microsoft, Microsoft remains in the spotlight. Musk alleges that OpenAI has deviated from its non-profit mission, using his donated funds for unauthorized commercial purposes. Musk's legal team also accuses Microsoft of assisting OpenAI in an alleged breach of charitable trust obligations.

OpenAI's attorneys have countered these claims, stating that no promises were made to Musk regarding the company's organizational structure and that the donated funds were used appropriately. Microsoft's lawyers have asserted that the company was unaware of and not involved in the alleged incidents.

A nine-member jury is set to begin deliberations on Monday, although their verdict will be advisory in nature. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers will make the final determination on liability.

For investors, this case is significant due to Microsoft's deep, ongoing ties with OpenAI through its artificial intelligence strategy and infrastructure investments.
