Peking University Professor Lin Zhouchen: No AI Company is Profitable Currently, Even OpenAI Loses Money

Deep News01-13

The 50th Tsinghua University China and World Economy Forum was broadcast online on January 13. Professor Lin Zhouchen from the School of Intelligence at Peking University stated that currently, not a single AI company is profitable. Even a company like OpenAI, despite generating over $10 billion in annual revenue, invests even more and consequently operates at a loss.

"Therefore, I believe they will soon become unsustainable. Whether OpenAI can survive beyond 2026 is a real question. In contrast, China is very pragmatic. The nation promotes 'AI+', integrating AI into various fields to enhance efficiency, generate profit first, and then reinvest, creating a virtuous cycle. In the long run, our model is undoubtedly more sustainable," he said.
