Since its inception in April 1956 as the first Party newspaper in western Yunnan, Weishan Bao laid the groundwork for what would become a remarkable media journey. Later renamed Weishan Daily and Weishan Express, the publication eventually ceased operations before being revived on July 1, 1997, and undergoing further name changes to Dali Daily·Weishan Edition and then Weishan News, a title that remains in use today.
In September 1956, the Weishan County Broadcasting Station was established, using a 50-watt amplifier and telephone lines to relay programs from China National Radio and Yunnan People's Broadcasting Station to various broadcast points across the region. Starting in 1981, the station introduced its own regular locally-produced programs, and by 1993, the Weishan Cable Television Station launched its flagship local show Weishan News, steadily enriching the scope of self-produced radio and television content.
Over more than six decades, Weishan's media sector has grown from nothing into a robust and evolving system, adapting through numerous reforms while continuously enhancing its content offerings and transforming its distribution methods. From print to broadcasting, television, and new media, the organization has kept pace with the times, consistently aligning with the county party committee and government's central priorities at each stage, championing core values and spreading positive energy to establish itself as a vital pillar of the region's ideological and propaganda efforts.
In March 2019, the Weishan News Editorial Department and Weishan County Broadcasting and Television Station merged to form the Weishan County Integrated Media Center. By consolidating resources and breaking free from traditional platform constraints, the center adopted a strategy prioritizing content quality and mobile-first accessibility, building a comprehensive matrix that spans radio, television, print, WeChat, microblogging, Douyin, and Kuaishou. This integration has significantly enhanced the guidance and reach of news dissemination, making it a crucial platform for rallying local support internally and showcasing Weishan's image externally, while better serving and engaging the public.
