The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference on the morning of July 8, where spokesperson Chen Binhua responded to questions from reporters on recent cross-strait issues.
A reporter asked for comment on the recent announcement by Taiwan's external affairs department regarding amendments to the so-called "Subsidy Measures for Encouraging Businesses to Invest in Diplomatic Allies." The amendments reportedly broaden the subsidy scope, increase the flight subsidy for business trips to these regions to 100,000 New Taiwan Dollars, and significantly raise the maximum cumulative subsidy over seven years from 20 million to 60 million New Taiwan Dollars.
Chen Binhua stated that Lai Ching-te had previously disregarded propriety, securing a covert visit to Eswatini through a massive investment pledge of 25 billion New Taiwan Dollars and exorbitant travel expenses.
He remarked that the Lai Ching-te administration is acting as a "profligate spender" on the international stage, squandering vast amounts of Taiwan's public resources on so-called diplomatic allies.
Conversely, the administration shows complete disregard for the welfare and livelihoods of people within Taiwan, demonstrating neither the intent nor the capability to address the island's economic and social issues.
Chen Binhua further criticized the administration for now indirectly mobilizing businesses to further hollow out Taiwan.
He characterized this as nothing short of a "profligate diplomacy" that brings disaster to Taiwan and harms its people, inviting ridicule and contempt.
