Fifth Third CIO Jude Schramm Recognized Among Top Financial Innovators by American Banker

Deep News06-09

Fifth Third has announced that its Chief Information Officer, Jude Schramm, has been named to American Banker magazine's inaugural list of the Most Innovative People in Finance.

This recognition honors executives and industry leaders driving transformation across banking, payments, technology, customer experience, artificial intelligence, and digital financial services.

Schramm joined Fifth Third in 2018 and has played a key role in modernizing the bank and expanding its digital capabilities. His focus has been on enterprise-wide adoption of AI and enhancing how customers interact with the bank through faster, more intuitive, and personalized digital experiences.

Under his leadership, the bank's technology delivery speed has increased dramatically, moving from about two mobile app technology upgrades per year in 2021 to over 500 in 2025, enabling faster innovation and more seamless experiences for both customers and employees.

Fifth Third's Chairman, CEO, and President, Tim Spence, stated, "Jude has helped lead how Fifth Third applies technology and AI to improve the customer experience and make us a better, more efficient bank. He brings discipline, clarity, and a strong focus on the capabilities that matter most at scale."

Schramm's leadership philosophy was shaped by his 17-year tenure at General Electric. He advocates for a "buy over build" technology strategy, strategically leveraging proven solutions from partners like nCino and Microsoft to bridge the significant IT budget gap with larger banks. This approach keeps customization of core systems strictly below 5% to ensure the bank's agility.

Looking ahead, Schramm will continue to focus on completing the integration of Fifth Third's systems with those of Comerica Bank. He will also advance the bank's application of AI, enhance the customer experience, and strengthen the scalable and resilient technology infrastructure needed to support future growth.

All award recipients will be honored at the American Banker Digital Banking Conference and awards dinner on June 16.
