DiDi Autonomous Driving Expands Overseas, First Stop in Abu Dhabi, Middle East

DiDi Global Inc.'s autonomous driving unit has announced a strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO). The collaboration will see DiDi Autonomous Driving join the Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry (SAVI) cluster in Abu Dhabi, focusing on technological innovation, AI talent development, and ecosystem growth in autonomous mobility. The partnership aims to support Abu Dhabi’s vision of becoming a leader in smart transportation and sustainable mobility, with plans to expand cooperation across the broader Middle East region.

The SAVI cluster, led by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and ADIO, serves as a hub for intelligent transportation in the Middle East and North Africa. It seeks to advance autonomous technology across land, sea, and air while accelerating smart city development. ADIO projects that SAVI will contribute AED 44 billion to Abu Dhabi’s GDP by 2045 and create 40,000 jobs.

H.E. Badr Al-Olama, Director General of ADIO, stated, "This collaboration marks a key milestone in Abu Dhabi’s future mobility vision. DiDi Autonomous Driving is a global leader in this field, and we welcome its participation in SAVI to scale autonomous technology across the Middle East. Together, we aim to set new benchmarks for smart, safe, and sustainable mobility."
