Shares of film-related companies are experiencing significant gains. DAMAI ENT (01060) has surged by 7.22% to HK$0.52, while MAOYAN ENT (01896) has risen by 5.06% to HK$5.61.
The upward movement is supported by strong box office performance. The total box office revenue for the 2026 summer movie season, including pre-sales, has surpassed 35 billion yuan as of July 16.
Adding to the momentum, another potential blockbuster is set for release following the success of "Kung Fu Women's Soccer." The animated comedy film "The Eight Immortals!" has seen its pre-sale and limited release ticket sales exceed 50 million yuan.
Meanwhile, the total box office for "Kung Fu Women's Soccer" is approaching 900 million yuan. Analysts note that the film, directed by Stephen Chow, has been a key driver for the market last week. Its success is attributed to the director's strong brand, a unique blend of martial arts and sports comedy that appeals to a broad audience, and its leading position in screenings, attendance rates, and daily票房 since release, contributing to significant week-on-week market growth.
Looking ahead, the supply of films remains robust for the latter half of the summer season from late July through August, with several major releases expected to sustain market interest.
