Deep News05-28

LG Energy Solution announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with an American energy company to supply $1.6 billion worth of energy storage system (ESS) batteries.

The South Korean battery manufacturer stated it will supply a total of 6 gigawatt-hours of energy storage batteries to DTE Energy Co over the next two years. DTE Energy Co operates two energy companies serving 2.3 million households and 1.3 million households, respectively.

LG Energy Solution indicated that its ESS batteries will be used for eight of DTE's grid construction projects, which include a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center being built for Oracle Corporation.

LG Energy Solution plans to primarily manufacture these batteries at its facility in Michigan. This factory first began mass production of ESS batteries in North America in June of last year.

LG Energy Solution currently operates five factories in North America, located in Canada, Tennessee, and Ohio. Among these, the factory in Ohio is a joint venture established with the Japanese automaker Honda.
