The development of smart logistics is playing an increasingly vital role in improving service efficiency and quality of life.
On June 8th, at the smart management display screen of the aggregation platform within the Twelfth Division International Logistics Center, staff monitored real-time operational data such as container bookings, yard scheduling, and waybill matching. The logistics center, located in the Xinjiang Pilot Free Trade Zone, operates with an orderly intelligent management system. Its comprehensive monitoring network provides round-the-clock oversight, continuously transmitting data on container yard operations, vehicle dispatch, and shipping information to a central control platform, which can automatically identify and alert potential safety hazards.
As a key regional logistics hub, the center was designed from its inception with a focus on intelligent development. It features three main functional zones: a customs supervision area, storage and distribution area, and dedicated railway lines, enabling a fully closed-loop operation covering transport, customs clearance, warehousing, and dispatch. The dedicated railway lines handle train transport tasks, the customs area manages declaration, inspection, and release, while the storage area handles cargo consolidation and distribution, ensuring highly efficient connectivity between all segments.
"Since deploying the multimodal transport railway yard management system, vehicle waiting times have been reduced by 40% and customs clearance efficiency has improved by 28%," explained He Jun, General Manager of Shandong High-Speed Xinjiang Logistics Development Co., Ltd.
Leveraging the China-Europe Railway Express and international highway transport networks, the center is progressively establishing two-way circulation channels. Domestically produced commercial vehicles and light industrial goods are exported to Central Asia and Europe, while overseas agricultural products and mineral resources enter the domestic market. By the end of May, the center had handled a cumulative total of 232 train services, including 35 international freight trains, with total freight volume reaching 330,000 tonnes, indicating steady growth in logistics scale.
The intelligent upgrade of the Twelfth Division International Logistics Center exemplifies the broader push within the division to accelerate the development of a modern logistics industry. Capitalizing on its strategic location within the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt, the Twelfth Division is committed to its role as a "Modern International Trade and Logistics Hub Port" for the region. Efforts are ongoing to refine the logistics industrial system, including the establishment of an integrated multimodal transport public service platform. This platform brings scattered logistics enterprises and related business entities within the division's jurisdiction into a standardized public service framework, systematically consolidating logistics information resources from road, rail, and air transport to break down data silos and achieve comprehensive data interconnectivity.
This integration effectively addresses bottlenecks and disconnects in logistics transport, business docking, and process coordination, continuously enhancing regional logistics efficiency and industrial service capabilities. The platform operates on a "dual-service" model: it provides industry regulators with statistical monitoring, safety supervision, and decision-support tools to improve management efficacy, while also offering upstream and downstream enterprises functions such as cargo source publishing, capacity inquiries, supply-demand matching, and order management, thereby accelerating the implementation of a "single document" system for multimodal transport.
Since its launch in May 2025, the platform has attracted registrations from over 120 enterprises and has integrated approximately 177 million pieces of logistics data.
The benefits of smart logistics are also evident in last-mile delivery. At the Xinjiang Oriental Baihe Ant Chain Logistics Technology Industrial Park in the Twelfth Division's Sanping Farm, a 15,000-square-meter fully automated intelligent sorting center operates efficiently. Conveyor belts, recognition systems, and mechanical sorting equipment work in concert to automatically route parcels to corresponding cargo grids, achieving fully automated package sorting.
"The hourly sorting capacity exceeds 20,000 items, equivalent to the workload of 50 sorters, while the rate of goods damage has been reduced by 60%," said Xiao Nengfu, the park's General Manager. Currently, the park processes approximately 50,000 parcels daily, with over 120 direct logistics routes covering more than 70% of townships across Xinjiang, reducing average delivery times in the northern Xinjiang region by 1.5 days.
From intelligent park management and the construction of a comprehensive logistics platform to automated end-point sorting, the Twelfth Division is rapidly building an efficient and synergistic modern logistics system. The coordinated development of infrastructure, data platforms, and transport networks is continuously improving the quality and efficiency of logistics services, injecting new momentum into economic development and enabling residents to enjoy more convenient and efficient logistics services.
