Shares of Ginkgo Bioworks Holdings Inc. (DNA) plummeted 5.05% in intraday trading on Thursday, underperforming the broader market. The stock's decline comes amidst allegations of a baby swap incident at a partner hospital, Rumah Sakit Islam Cempaka Putih, located in Jakarta, Indonesia.
According to reports, a father named MR has accused the hospital of switching his newborn baby with another infant. The situation unfolded when MR noticed discrepancies between the appearance of his baby during the adzani ritual and the infant's body that was later presented for burial. MR's wife, FS, had given birth at the hospital on September 16th, 2024, but tragically, the baby passed away the following day under unexplained circumstances.
In response to the allegations, Rumah Sakit Islam Cempaka Putih has agreed to facilitate DNA testing to determine the truth. The hospital has committed to fully covering the costs of the DNA tests, allowing MR and his family to choose a testing facility they trust. However, reports suggest that the hospital has requested MR's employer to initially pay for the tests, with the promise of reimbursement from the hospital.
