Legendary investor Stanley Druckenmiller executed a major restructuring of his Duquesne Family Office portfolio during the second quarter, with the scale of the moves drawing significant market attention.
The latest 13F filing reveals that Druckenmiller made his first purchase of Chinese stocks in about two years, buying 88,000 shares of Baidu. Simultaneously, he expanded his position in Amazon.com by over 1,000% and established a new stake in Advanced Micro Devices. At the same time, he completely liquidated holdings in three major semiconductor companies: Broadcom, Intel, and Micron Technology, structurally reshaping his technology portfolio.
This rebalancing reflects Druckenmiller's continued bet on AI infrastructure and large-scale tech platforms, while also signaling a marginal shift in his stance toward Chinese technology stocks—his firm had previously fully exited its position in Alibaba ADRs in the fourth quarter of 2023.
First Chinese Stock Buy in Two Years, Baidu as Entry Point
Druckenmiller purchased 88,000 shares of Baidu in the second quarter, marking his firm's first re-entry into Chinese stocks since liquidating Alibaba. This move indicates a notable change in his attitude toward China's tech sector.
However, this position currently accounts for only 0.2% of the Duquesne portfolio, a relatively modest size that appears more exploratory in nature.
Baidu is China's leading Chinese-language internet search engine, generating most of its revenue from online marketing services. It also owns the video streaming subsidiary iQiyi and continues to invest in AI cloud infrastructure and autonomous driving. The company's current market capitalization stands at approximately $35.16 billion.
From a valuation perspective, Baidu's current price-to-sales (P/S) ratio is significantly above its historical median of about 2.7x. Since the company is currently reporting losses and negative cash flow, traditional earnings-based valuation metrics like the P/E ratio are not applicable.
According to GuruFocus data, Baidu's GF Value™ estimate is $108.51, roughly 4.5% below its current market price of $103.67, suggesting some potential undervaluation. However, analysts caution that this indicator is more directional in nature.
In terms of institutional activity, there are currently 11 well-known investors holding Baidu positions, with five having recently increased their stakes and six reducing theirs, highlighting significant divergence in sentiment.
Amazon Stake Surges Over 1,000%, Alphabet Position Established
In the U.S. tech sector, Druckenmiller's moves were more aggressive. Duquesne increased its Amazon.com holdings from a previously very low level to 541,600 shares, a gain of over 1,000%. Additionally, the firm more than doubled its call option position in Amazon.com, demonstrating strong conviction in the e-commerce and cloud computing giant.
Meanwhile, Duquesne established a new position of 336,300 shares of Alphabet Class A stock and added new call option positions in Meta Platforms, Inc. and Tesla Motors. These actions suggest Druckenmiller is concentrating his bets on large-scale tech platforms with AI capabilities.
Exits Broadcom, Intel, and Micron; Major Semiconductor Portfolio Overhaul
The semiconductor sector saw the most dramatic changes in this quarter's rebalancing. Duquesne completely exited its previous holdings in Broadcom, Intel, and Micron Technology. At the same time, it built a new position of 72,900 shares in Advanced Micro Devices and further increased its existing stake in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing.
This strategy highlights a clear differentiation in Druckenmiller's semiconductor approach: abandoning Broadcom, Intel, and Micron Technology in favor of Advanced Micro Devices and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the latter two being more directly tied to AI computing infrastructure.
Betting on Data Center Infrastructure, Airline Stocks Significantly Expanded
Beyond technology, Druckenmiller extended his reach into data center-related infrastructure. Duquesne bought over 4 million shares of Bitdeer Technologies Group and established a new position of 754,800 shares in Riot Platforms, both of which are linked to cryptocurrency mining and data center computing power infrastructure.
The airline sector also saw substantial investment. Duquesne built a new position of 603,000 shares in Delta Air Lines and nearly tripled its holdings in United Airlines to 794,800 shares. Additionally, the firm established a new position of approximately 2.8 million shares in Fox Corporation Class A.
Simultaneous Reductions or Exits in Multiple Stocks
While expanding these positions, Duquesne significantly reduced others. The firm completely exited Cloudflare and MercadoLibre, and cut its holdings in Alcoa and Arm Holdings by over 70% each.
Overall, Druckenmiller's strategy this quarter is clear: concentrate resources on major AI platforms and infrastructure, systematically reduce exposure to traditional semiconductors and some previously held tech and commodity-related stocks, while making a small, tentative return to Chinese stocks.
