The city of Beijing has announced plans to advance the development of its digital economy, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies.
According to information released, the added value of the digital economy in Beijing grew by 7.8% in the first half of the year. The core digital economy industries saw an even stronger growth rate of 9.8%, significantly contributing to the city's overall GDP growth.
In the first six months, the city successfully added 22,000 Petaflops (P) of new AI computing capacity, bringing its total supply to 82,000 P. This expansion is part of a broader effort to create an efficient, integrated, and green computing network across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
For the latter half of the year, the city's economic and information technology authorities have outlined several key initiatives. A primary goal is to further integrate AI across all sectors of the economy.
This includes promoting AI applications in new industrialization, establishing dedicated R&D and pilot platforms for industrial AI, and enhancing the use of AI in core production processes. Specific policies will be introduced to support companies in embodied AI with computing power and high-quality datasets.
Efforts will also be made to accelerate the application of AI in healthcare by establishing a national pilot base for medical AI applications, facilitating collaboration between top-tier hospitals, research institutions, and tech firms.
In the consumer and cultural tourism sectors, the city will promote the use of intelligent translation and simultaneous interpretation technologies, expanding language support and improving hardware-software integration.
A significant new focus area will be the development of a "Token economy." The city plans to formulate supportive policies and build infrastructure such as Token factories and distribution platforms. These will be leveraged to drive innovative applications in key fields including industry, education, and cultural tourism.
Furthermore, Beijing aims to substantially boost its intelligent computing power supply. The target for the second half of the year is to add 50,000 P of new AI computing capacity, which would bring the city's total annual computing scale to over 130,000 P.
Concurrently, the city will continue to upgrade existing data centers for greater energy efficiency and green power utilization, with an annual target of consuming over 3 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity.
Through these comprehensive measures, Beijing seeks to fully unleash the new driving force of an intelligent economy and solidify its position as a leading hub for digital innovation.
