Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced on Monday that it has partnered with Hyundai Motor Group to launch a new "Car-to-Home" service, enabling vehicle owners to remotely control household appliances from their cars using Samsung's SmartThings platform.
In a statement, Samsung Electronics explained that the new feature allows drivers to use their vehicle's infotainment screen to operate Samsung home devices—such as air conditioners, air purifiers, and robotic vacuum cleaners—while on the road.
For example, users can activate a "Coming Home" mode, which automatically turns on the air conditioning and lighting as they approach their residence.
When the "Leaving Home" mode is enabled, the platform will power down unused appliances and activate the robotic vacuum cleaner.
The service is compatible with Hyundai and Kia models produced after November 2022 that support the connected car navigation infotainment system. Samsung and the two automakers plan to expand availability to additional models through future software updates.
Samsung Electronics stated, "We plan to continue working closely with Hyundai Motor Group to deliver unique experiences that seamlessly integrate mobility and living environments."
In September of last year, the two companies collaborated to introduce a "Home-to-Car" service, which allows users to control certain vehicle functions—such as starting the engine or initiating electric vehicle charging—from inside their homes.
