Located deep within the Bohai Sea, Changdao’s vast maritime area and scattered islands make its communication network the sole digital link to the mainland. This unique geography imposes far greater demands on equipment durability, requiring robust protection against moisture and salt corrosion, as well as exceptional power stability and disaster preparedness—standards significantly higher than those on the mainland. Fully recognizing this responsibility, the operations team has institutionalized routine inspections of the equipment rooms. Technicians meticulously check the status of transmission equipment and fiber connections within each cabinet, verify line labels, and measure optical link loss and transceiver power. Every yellow pigtail fiber carrying voice, broadband, and data services is tracked with precise awareness.
Beyond daily upkeep, the team has established comprehensive equipment health records, conducting regular hazard assessments and proactive risk mitigation. By anticipating issues such as component aging, loose connectors, and power fluctuations, they effectively resolve potential problems before they escalate. Additionally, given the island's susceptibility to flood season and frequent typhoons, the team has refined its emergency repair plans, enforcing a 7x24-hour on-duty system to guarantee rapid deployment of personnel, spare parts, and vehicles during unforeseen events.
Proactively, the team has forged an information-sharing mechanism with meteorological and maritime authorities, preemptively deploying measures against wind, lightning, and water ingress. This strategy has enabled successful defenses against multiple severe weather events.
