Ganyu LNG Terminal Project Successfully Completes First Tank Roof Lift

Deep News12-19

On December 19, the first tank pneumatic roof lift was completed at the Jiangsu Huadian Ganyu LNG Terminal, a key national natural gas infrastructure interconnection project and China’s first LNG terminal involving a state-owned power enterprise. This project will enhance regional gas supply flexibility and reliability, further integrating China’s natural gas network and optimizing the energy structure of the Yangtze River Delta.

Located in Ganyu Port Area, Lianyungang, Jiangsu, the project is the province’s first approved land reclamation and subsea gas pipeline initiative since the establishment of the Ministry of Natural Resources. It represents a strategic move to strengthen Jiangsu’s natural gas supply capacity and optimize its energy mix. The project includes three 220,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks, jointly invested by Huadian Jiangsu Energy Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation) and multiple international partners, with construction undertaken by China Nuclear Fifth Construction Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of CNNC).

China Nuclear Fifth Construction Co., Ltd. is the only CNNC-affiliated company capable of integrated storage tank construction and installation, as well as full-site tank integration. As a leader in China’s cryogenic storage tank construction sector, it was also the first Chinese firm to export complete cryogenic tank construction technology. The company has independently executed multiple "dual-roof" and "triple-roof" simultaneous lifting projects. The newly completed tank marks the company’s 100th cryogenic storage tank project.

Once operational, the Jiangsu Huadian Ganyu LNG Terminal will supply 4.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, equivalent to 13.7% of Jiangsu’s yearly consumption—enough to meet residential demand for about a month. Additionally, it will reduce CO₂ emissions by over 30 million tons per year, comparable to planting 80 million trees. The project will also drive growth in upstream and downstream industries, including ports, shipping, engineering, and equipment manufacturing, while providing stable clean energy support for petrochemical and other industries in Ganyu’s port area.
