Sources familiar with the matter report that Qualcomm is in advanced negotiations to acquire artificial intelligence chip startup Modular Inc., with a potential deal valuing the company at approximately $4 billion.

An announcement could be made within the coming weeks.

These sources added that a final agreement has not yet been reached, talks could still fall apart, and the terms of the transaction are subject to change.

Chip companies are actively seeking to secure technology and talent at the forefront of the AI sector.

Qualcomm is working to expand its product portfolio and establish collaborative alliances to challenge the industry leader, NVIDIA.

According to information on its website, Modular was founded in Silicon Valley in 2022 by Chris Lattner and Tim Davis, who met at Google and were dissatisfied with what they described as the "fragmentation of AI infrastructure."

The company raised $250 million in a September 2025 funding round that valued it at $1.6 billion, bringing its total funding to $380 million.
