The Xigu Expressway Guangnan Section project, a key ongoing construction initiative in Guangnan County, is leveraging favorable building conditions to accelerate progress. The contractor is focusing on critical processes such as subgrade work, slope protection, and bridge structures, while tightening quality and safety controls to drive faster, higher-quality development and lay a solid foundation for a regional convenient transport network.
At the precast beam yard of the Civil Engineering Subdivision 4 of the Xigu Expressway, the standardized construction site is clean and orderly, with large mechanical equipment operating efficiently. Steel bar cutting and processing are proceeding methodically. In response to the region's high temperatures, the project team has optimized construction support measures and installed convenience facilities to safeguard both efficiency and worker safety, steadily advancing the production of precast bridge components.
Yang Xingfu, Project Manager of Civil Engineering Subdivision 4 of the Xigu Expressway, stated: "We have set up two steel processing areas: one main reinforcement workshop handling semi-finished products, plus two diaphragm and two top-slab support frames. Given the intense heat here, with peak temperatures reaching 43°C, we've installed a mobile canopy to shield workers from sun and wind, ensuring uninterrupted operations. We can produce five T-beams daily."
Alongside steady progress on bridge precast works, high-slope subgrade construction is being pushed forward simultaneously. At the high-slope site of Civil Engineering Subdivision 6, dozens of workers are collaborating efficiently on tasks including foundation excavation, slope drilling, rebar tying, formwork installation, and anchor cable and bolt works. Each process strictly follows operating specifications to reinforce the project's quality defense line.
Yuan Zhangbo, Team Leader of Subgrade Team 2 at Civil Engineering Subdivision 6 of the Xigu Expressway, commented: "We're currently installing anchor cables and bolts. During construction, we adhere strictly to design standards and construction codes, ensuring every step is executed with precision and tight control. We uphold safety first and quality foremost, diligently completing each task with care and excellence."
As a key controlling project, the construction pace of the Longbang Extra-Large Bridge directly influences the timeline for full-line connection. At the bridge site, tower cranes stand tall and machinery roars, with the construction team seizing favorable weather to orderly advance core processes like pier column pouring and capping beam erection. The standardized and regulated construction workflow ensures efficient and high-quality bridge delivery.
Yang Taihui, On-Site Technical Director of the Longbang Extra-Large Bridge at Civil Engineering Subdivision 6 of the Xigu Expressway, noted: "We are currently working on the Longbang Extra-Large Bridge, a controlling structure for the Xigu Expressway. It spans 1,000 meters in length with a maximum height of 55 meters. Right now, we're handling pier columns and capping beams. The plan is to complete the substructure by the end of this year to enable beam erection, followed by bridge installation in February 2027."
The Xigu Expressway, a major transport link connecting Xilin in Guangxi and Guangnan in Yunnan, boasts a mainline of approximately 40.32 kilometers with a four-lane dual carriageway design and a total investment of 7.758 billion yuan. Scheduled for completion in March 2028, it will open a new artery between Yunnan and Guangxi upon completion, serving as a fresh corridor for Yunnan to integrate with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The project holds significant strategic value in driving resource development along the route and promoting regional economic and social growth.
Since construction began, all personnel have focused on the target opening date, scientifically coordinating construction plans, rationally allocating manpower, materials, and machinery, and strictly controlling safety, quality, and environmental standards. Various sub-projects are advancing in parallel with multiple fronts active, keeping the overall project pace steady and orderly.
Li Shipeng, Deputy Manager of the Xilin-Guangnan Expressway (Yunnan Section) Project Headquarters, stated: "The Xigu Expressway project started in May 2025. To date, subgrade works have cumulatively completed 51.53%, bridge substructure works 68.11%, and tunnel works 25.46%. The entire mainline is now fully underway. Going forward, we will seize the golden construction period, strictly maintain safety, quality, and environmental standards, employ scientific organization and meticulous construction, and ensure this approximately 40.32-kilometer, four-lane dual carriageway highway is completed and opened to traffic as planned, delivering a satisfactory answer to the people along the route."
