Bitcoin Buy Pressure Fades as Volatility Rises and Fed Meeting Takes Center Stage

Stock News10-16

Bitcoin has shown some signs of a rebound near $80,000, but on-chain data suggests that buying pressure is genuinely weakening, and the market's focus has shifted quickly from seasonal speculation to the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting on the 27th and 28th.

According to Woofun AI, Alphractal analysis indicates that if buying momentum continues to slow, BTC price will face a correction or range-bound movement, while macroeconomic factors are reshaping their dominant role in asset pricing. This shift marks a return from blind optimism to rational competition, and investors need to watch for chain reactions triggered by fading buy pressure, especially as altcoin volatility may increase as a result. The market is currently at a critical window for choosing direction, and subtle changes in on-chain data often signal larger market turning points.

CryptoPotato reported on the 15th, local time, that on-chain analytics platform Alphractal detected a declining trend in a key indicator that reflects the difference between Bitcoin buying and selling pressure, directly mirroring the weakening of upward momentum. During intraday trading, BTC briefly fell to around $80,000 and then barely recovered to about $82,000. This narrow range is a typical sign of a standoff between bulls and bears. The market is now highly focused on whether this indicator will deteriorate further and turn negative.

Alphractal explained that when the buy-sell pressure differential stops rising, price usually adjusts through declines or sideways trading, which is a common accumulation phase before major moves. Notably, the platform stressed that the current decline alone is not enough to confirm a strong sell signal, but if the indicator keeps falling for several days and finally turns negative, it would mean sellers have fully taken control and downside risk would increase significantly. Alphractal founder Joao Wedson remains cautious, saying the current weakening in buying strength is not an isolated phenomenon but an early signal of a change in market structure. Investors need to closely track how this indicator evolves to judge whether a true correction cycle has begun.

Woofun AI's compiled data shows that the decline in Bitcoin buying momentum may hit the altcoin sector even harder. Joao Wedson further pointed out that if the median return of the top 100 altcoins by market cap exceeds Bitcoin's, their subsequent volatility often rises markedly, and this relative strength usually cannot last. From a historical cycle perspective, market trends undergo a structural shift about every 60 days, and during turning points, capital often exits high-risk assets and flows into Bitcoin and stablecoins, which are safer or more liquid. This rotation mechanism shows that when Bitcoin itself lacks sufficient buying support, speculative rallies in altcoins lack a solid foundation and are highly prone to sharp pullbacks. Therefore, the current high volatility in altcoins is not an independent trend but a result of pressure transmitting from the Bitcoin market. Investors should be especially cautious when allocating to altcoins, because if Bitcoin buying pressure continues to fade, altcoin declines could far exceed those of major coins. The 60-day cycle pattern suggests the market may be at the threshold of a new round of capital reallocation, with stablecoins and BTC becoming the main safe havens in the short term.

Meanwhile, the long-held "Uptober" expectation is being disproved by reality. TraceFinance co-founder and CEO Bernardo Brites told CryptoPotato that although October posted gains 10 times in the past 13 years, the sample size is small, and the market environment then was deeply driven by retail investor sentiment and leveraged trading, which is fundamentally different from today's institution-led market structure. More importantly, last year already broke the record of six consecutive years of October gains, marking the failure of the seasonal pattern. Brites stressed that Bitcoin's price is now more determined by macro fundamentals such as ETF fund flows, interest rate levels, and the dollar trend, rather than simple seasonal factors. This means strategies that rely on historical monthly performance are no longer applicable, and the market's pricing logic has undergone a fundamental reconstruction. If investors still cling to the old belief that "October must rise," they may suffer major losses in the face of macro headwinds. What the market needs to focus on now is actual capital flows and policy expectations, not calendar month labels.

Bitcoin's pricing logic has now been completely restructured, with key variables concentrated in macro policy and liquidity. Brites believes the most important variable this month is the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting on the 27th and 28th, and whether October can deliver gains will depend entirely on the policy outcome of that meeting. Interest rate decisions and the dollar trend will directly determine the direction of ETF fund flows and thus affect BTC price. Seasonal factors have become insignificant in the face of macro forces, and the market is shifting from sentiment-driven to fundamentals-driven. Investors need to pay close attention to the details of the Fed meeting to cope with potential policy shocks. As the dual pressures of fading buy pressure and a macro shift stack up, market volatility may intensify further. Investors need to adjust their strategies, moving from chasing rallies and selling declines to value assessment based on macro logic, so they can find certainty amid an uncertain market.
