OnePlus 16 Officially Launches: Anchored in Performance, Built as an All-Round Flagship, Starting at 5,199 Yuan After National Subsidy

Deep News10-13

OnePlus held a new product launch event today, unveiling its annual digital flagship, the OnePlus 16. The new device is built around deep, full-chain optimization for gaming performance while also shoring up shortcomings in display, imaging, and battery life, positioning itself as an all-round performance flagship. The model officially goes on sale across all channels at 10 a.m. on October 13, with an official starting price of 5,699 yuan, dropping to a minimum of 5,199 yuan after stacking national subsidies.

In terms of product positioning, the OnePlus 16 continues the brand's "never settle" philosophy, emphasizing "beyond performance, unlocking more power." Unlike flagships that simply pile on hardware, the device treats gaming experience as its core breakthrough, forming a complete closed loop across hardware, chip-level foundations, companion chips, and cooling, with the goal of delivering a stable native 185FPS mobile gaming experience aimed at the heavy gamer market.

On the core hardware front, the OnePlus 16 is among the first to feature the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Super Ultimate Edition chip, built on TSMC's 2nm process. To fully unleash the chip's potential, OnePlus has integrated a Wind Chase gaming kernel that performs scheduling optimization directly at the chip's foundation. Notably, the device packs a complete suite of self-developed esports triple-chip solutions: the Esports Network Chip G3, the Super Display Chip P4, and the Lingxi Touch Chip T3, respectively responsible for reducing network latency, optimizing clarity in high-speed motion scenes, and improving touch response. Paired with the Glacier cooling system, it addresses the pain point of thermal throttling under high loads. It has already completed 185FPS adaptation for mainstream mobile titles including "Peacekeeper Elite," "Delta Force," and "Arena Breakout."

On the display side, the OnePlus 16 is the world's first to debut the fourth-generation Oriental Screen co-developed with BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. (000725), using X4 luminescent material. The hardware supports a 1-165Hz adaptive refresh rate, with gaming scenarios capable of triggering up to 185Hz ultra-high refresh. The front features a 1.15mm ultra-narrow quad-curved equal-edge design, further boosting screen-to-body ratio and visual appeal while balancing smoothness, display quality, and everyday eye care needs.

Battery life is a major highlight of this upgrade. The OnePlus 16 packs a 9,000mAh Glacier high-capacity battery, paired with 100W wired Super Flash Charge, 50W wireless flash charging, and support for 27W wired reverse charging, balancing endurance and charging efficiency to alleviate the battery shortcomings of flagships.

The imaging system has been upgraded to the LUMO Light Condensation imaging system, featuring a rear 200-megapixel large-sensor main camera, a 50-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, covering landscapes, portraits, and long-range shooting scenarios to comprehensively round out the performance flagship's imaging capabilities.

The exterior comes in three colorways: Tomorrow's Starlight, Dark Forest, and Mars Masterpiece. It runs the ColorOS 17 system and features a full suite of flagship configurations including an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor, full-band 5G, and high-level protection. Version options cover four tiers: 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, 16GB+512GB, and 16GB+1TB, with the first-sale promotional period running until November 13.

Purchase benefits include up to 24 interest-free installments, up to 1,499 yuan in trade-in subsidies, an extra diamond-quilted backpack for student users, and limited-time gifts such as earphones and cooling back clips. Subsidy policies vary according to local implementation standards.

Li Jie, President of OnePlus China, mentioned at the launch event that the brand has maintained an 18% sales growth rate this year, with over 68% of high-refresh-rate mobile gaming users choosing OnePlus, and net promoter score rising for three consecutive years. From an industry perspective, amid lengthening device replacement cycles and intensifying stock market competition, the OnePlus 16 seeks to use high-frame-rate gaming as a differentiating label while also shoring up battery life and imaging, breaking out of a single "gaming-only" positioning to challenge the 5,000-8,000 yuan mainstream high-end market, using a post-subsidy starting price of 5,199 yuan to further amplify its value-for-money advantage.

Industry analysts believe that with many flagship products now using similar chips, differentiation increasingly comes from manufacturers' underlying scheduling, self-developed chips, custom supply-chain displays, and other software and joint-development capabilities. The OnePlus 16 takes gaming and battery life as its core levers while addressing imaging shortcomings, aiming to cover a diverse consumer base spanning gaming enthusiasts, ordinary imaging users, and those with heavy battery needs. Its market performance will also serve as a sample for observing the direction of China's domestic Android high-end flagship market this year.

The OnePlus 16 went on sale simultaneously at 10 a.m. on October 13 across all channels including OPPO Mall, JD.com, Tmall, and Douyin.
