Doubao Mobile Assistant Responds to Pony Ma's Security Concerns

Deep News01-26

On January 26, Pony Ma, the founder of Tencent, mentioned the Doubao phone—a joint product launched by ByteDance and ZTE—during the company's annual meeting, expressing concerns about its security.

Doubao Mobile Assistant responded in a Weibo post, stating, "We understand the public's focus on the security and privacy of mobile assistants. Doubao Mobile Assistant strictly adheres to the principles of user authorization and compliance, only accessing necessary functions with explicit user permission. Furthermore, when processing user screen content in the cloud, Doubao Mobile Assistant rigorously follows the 'no storage, no training' principle. Data transmission is encrypted, and usage is protected by strict measures to ensure user privacy and security."

On December 3 last year, Doubao Mobile Assistant issued a statement saying that several media outlets had contacted them, claiming that a technology company had alleged "Doubao Mobile Assistant infringes on user privacy."

Doubao Mobile Assistant does not engage in any hacking activities. It requires users to actively grant authorization before it can access the necessary permissions to operate phone functions. The use of these permissions has been clearly disclosed in the permission list.

To the company's understanding, all AI assistants in the industry currently require the use of this permission (or similar accessibility permissions) to provide phone operation services. Doubao Mobile Assistant does not perform any authorizations or sensitive operations on behalf of the user.

Additionally, the mobile assistant does not store any user screen content in the cloud. The current release of Doubao Mobile Assistant is a "technical preview version," an exploratory product aimed at the industry and AI technology enthusiasts, and it is not currently available to general consumers.
