The national finals for the produce broker skills competition, part of the Seventh National Agricultural Industry Vocational Skills Contest, were held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province on July 14th.
A total of 91 contestants from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country participated in the final event.
After two days of competition, 50 contestants were awarded first, second, and third prizes, while five teams received the "Outstanding Group Award".
This year marks the first time the produce broker skills competition has been included as a category within the national agricultural industry vocational skills contest.
The competition featured two main components: a theoretical knowledge exam and an on-site practical skills assessment.
These components utilized methods such as computer-based testing, physical product identification, roadshow presentations, and live Q&A sessions.
The focus was on evaluating contestants' foundational knowledge, understanding of policies and regulations, as well as their abilities in information gathering and analysis, quality assessment and storage, and marketing of agricultural products.
The event comprehensively tested the professional knowledge and practical skills of the participants.
It also addressed practical issues in emergency agricultural product promotion, generating a number of innovative and practical solutions.
The competition's content was aligned with industry needs, the skills assessment matched job requirements, and talent development was oriented toward industry growth.
The final round was held in conjunction with World Youth Skills Day on July 15th.
To maximize the comprehensive benefits of gathering talent, strengthening skills, and promoting action through competition, the event innovated its format beyond the core contests.
It invited experts from financial institutions, e-commerce platforms, and the industry and academic sectors to discuss measures for accelerating the development of produce brokers.
After the competition, participants were organized to visit the Jiangnan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market for on-site observation and production-sales matchmaking.
A recently issued plan for accelerating agricultural and rural modernization during the 15th Five-Year Plan period clearly sets a target of cultivating 30,000 key produce brokers nationwide.
Moving forward, efforts will be intensified to foster the development of produce brokers.
This will involve driving progress across standards, competitions, training, finance, distribution channels, and institutional frameworks.
The goal is to promote the professional, specialized, and standardized development of produce brokers, providing strong support for accelerating agricultural and rural modernization and solidly advancing comprehensive rural revitalization.
