From July 17 to 23, the "Yi Lu Xian Feng, Xi Yan Zhu Meng" AI-empowered Mandarin promotion summer practice group from the School of Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence at Wuxi Business College, in collaboration with the Ninth Branch of the Yan'an Municipal Committee of the China Democratic National Construction Association, conducted social practice activities in Yan'an with a focus on "AI-empowered Mandarin plus."
The practice group visited Ganquan Laoshan Battle Red Army Primary School, Baota District Gongxue Community, and the Yan'an Center for Disease Control and Prevention. They focused on four key areas: language survey research, digital and smart legal education, sci-tech innovation public welfare classes, and school-local collaborative construction. Using artificial intelligence technology, they injected new vitality into language promotion for the revolutionary old area.
Survey and Research: Mapping the Language Landscape
The practice group deeply explored the townships of Baota District and Ganquan County, visiting streets, villages, communities, shops, and public institutions. They conducted questionnaire surveys targeting different groups, including left-behind elderly, returning youth, shop owners, public officials, and children and adolescents.
The team combined on-site observation with face-to-face interviews to understand the actual scenarios and main difficulties locals face in using Putonghua in daily life. They collected over 300 copies of the "Yan'an Putonghua Usage Survey Questionnaire," providing data support for subsequent precise Mandarin promotion efforts.
Digital and Smart Legal Education: Language and Law Reach People's Hearts
The practice group promoted the "Digital Language Expo" app. Based on the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Standard Spoken and Written Chinese Language," the team independently created a three-episode series of AI digital human legal education micro-videos, transforming abstract legal provisions into engaging lectures. These videos were viewed more than 120 times.
The team simultaneously launched a "Legal Knowledge Quiz" question bank and three issues of legal education WeChat posts, along with an "Online Quiz Win Souvenirs" interactive activity. Using the "Digital Language Expo" app, the group demonstrated to community residents and teenagers the development history and usage methods of the national standard language. One community resident said after the experience: "I never knew Putonghua had so much knowledge. This app has given me a whole new understanding of the national standard language."
Smart Classes: Tech and Innovation Light Up Science Education
The practice group conducted seven public welfare classes at Laoshan Battle Red Army Primary School and Gongxue Community. In the "Red Recitation, AI Corrects Pronunciation" class, children recited "Seven Laws: Long March" in unison. The AI system provided real-time feedback on pronunciation accuracy from three dimensions: tone, finals, and fluency. After correction exercises, the children's average pronunciation accuracy reached 95%.
In the "Pomegranate Mailbox, Hearts Connected Across Thousands of Miles" class, teenagers from Yan'an and Wuxi wrote handwritten letters using standard Chinese characters. In the "Building Unity Together, AI Paints Solidarity" and "New Interpretations of Ancient Poems, AI Creates Poetry and Paintings" classes, children used AI to create "pomegranate seed" themed artworks and transformed classic poems like "Quiet Night Thoughts" into AI short videos. Additionally, courses in electronic engineering, network engineering, and children's programming turned hands-on practice into a "training ground" for improving Putonghua expression skills.
School-Local Co-construction: Strengthening the Foundation of Education
During the practice period, the college's Smart Technology Student Party Branch signed co-construction agreements with the Laoshan Battle Red Army Primary School Party Branch and the Gongxue Community First Grid Party Branch. Together, they explored new paths for integrating "red + technology" into the ideological and political curriculum across primary, secondary, and tertiary education.
Digital and smart curriculum resources, such as AI digital human legal education, AI poetry and painting, and AI intelligent voice evaluation, were introduced into primary school campuses and community classrooms. At the site of Comrade Mao Zedong's speech in the snow and the Laoshan Battle site, the practice group conducted immersive red research study and recorded two episodes of "Walking Micro-Courses."
The group also exchanged ideas and learned from the practice group of Shaanxi Vocational and Technical College in the field of "red research + professional practice."
After the conclusion of the activities, the practice group received letters of thanks from Laoshan Battle Red Army Primary School and Gongxue Community. A second-grade child placed a marble in the hand of a practice group member, saying: "Big sister, here's this for you. When you come back next time, can you return it to me?" This marble became a warm promise of Mandarin promotion between Wuxi and Yan'an. The practice group stated that they will continue to deepen school-local cooperation, contributing vocational education's strength to promoting the national standard language and consolidating the sense of community of the Chinese nation.
