At the 2026 Artificial Intelligence Industry Conference opening ceremony on October 15, Bank Of China Limited (ASX: 601988) joined forces with the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the China Association for Public Companies, the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and China Securities Index Co., Ltd. to jointly release the CSI Bank of China Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Industry Index, with the index code 932737.
The launch of this index is intended to further connect artificial intelligence industry standards with the capital market and financial services, create a more standardized, transparent, and scientific tool for industry identification and evaluation, improve the precision and effectiveness of financial resource allocation, and promote better financial service for the high-quality development of the artificial intelligence industry.
Building the foundation of standards and precisely outlining the full industry chain
The index takes artificial intelligence industry standards as an important basis and incorporates achievements such as the definition of industry boundaries and enterprise identification into the index compilation plan, systematically identifying and classifying what constitutes the artificial intelligence industry and which companies qualify as artificial intelligence enterprises.
The index covers all listed companies in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong and strictly selects 314 target enterprises that meet the standards, fully covering key links in the industrial chain, including the infrastructure layer, the framework and model layer, and the application layer. By introducing industry chain tier weightings and sector constraint mechanisms, it builds a sample system of listed companies that is both representative and traceable.
In principle, the index rebalances once every six months. Relying on a stable, continuous, and transparent mechanism, it provides a sustainable market tool for observing the long-term development of the artificial intelligence industry.
Building the bridge of the index and continuously improving the quality and efficiency of resource allocation
The index organically connects the standard for industry identification with listed companies' operating data and capital market performance. On the one hand, the index can serve as an important window for observing the development of the artificial intelligence industry, more systematically reflecting industrial structure, market performance, and development trends, and providing reference for government departments, industry participants, and market institutions in studying the artificial intelligence industry.
On the other hand, the index provides financial institutions with a standardized underlying tool, helping institutions focus their efforts precisely in areas such as industry research, target identification, asset allocation, and product innovation, and helping promote a virtuous cycle among technology, industry, and finance.
Expanding the dimensions of application and jointly safeguarding the development of new quality productive forces
The development of the artificial intelligence industry requires not only continuous technological innovation but also standards leadership, ecosystem coordination, and patient capital support. The index carries four core functions: first, as an industrial benchmark that objectively reflects the overall development of the artificial intelligence industry. Second, as a market bellwether that tracks the capital market performance of the artificial intelligence industry. Third, as a benchmark for financial products that provides research, allocation, and product development tools for asset management institutions and domestic and overseas investors. Fourth, as a thematic pool that offers a reference standard sample pool for public fund asset management institutions selecting artificial intelligence industry targets.
Historical backtesting data shows that since 2025, the index has generally shown the characteristics of steady growth with controllable volatility and has demonstrated strong representativeness in reflecting the development trend of the artificial intelligence industry.
Bank of China will take the release of this index as a new starting point, strengthen coordination with industry regulatory authorities, research institutions, industry organizations, and market participants, and continue to promote the more precise, orderly, and effective allocation of financial resources to the artificial intelligence industry, contributing financial strength to accelerating the development of new quality productive forces and advancing high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-strengthening.
