On August 7, Meituan's food delivery service, in partnership with the Meituan Qingshan Initiative, launched a specialized drink cup recycling campaign with multiple beverage brands. The initiative invites consumers to enjoy "autumn's first cup of milk tea" while also participating in a convenient eco-friendly act. Compared to previous years, the scale of participating brands and stores in this charitable action has expanded further. According to the announcement, the campaign has attracted participation from 64 national brands, including Luckin Coffee, ChaPanda, Cotti Coffee, Auntea Jenny Fresh Fruit Tea, and CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice, covering nearly 100,000 outlets. During the event, consumers can take part by selecting "good cups" online and depositing empty cups offline, receiving milk tea discount coupons in return. The Meituan Qingshan Initiative also supports "Box Convergence" partners like RuiPu Environmental Protection in conducting specialized recycling, ensuring more plastic drink cups enter high-value regeneration processes.
In the "Good Cup New Life" campaign zone, Meituan offers consumers drink choices that meet "easy-to-recycle, easy-to-regenerate" eco-design requirements. These "dual-easy" drink cups feature a single material, transparency, and minimal ink printing, significantly reducing the difficulty of later recycling and reuse. According to reports, each order placed in the "Good Cup" zone allows consumers to earn 40g of carbon credits in their carbon accounts. These carbon credits can be redeemed for rewards such as "Autumn Milk Tea Good Cup Super Coupons," limited-edition eco-friendly merchandise, and can also support the Meituan Rural Children's Playground public welfare plan. The "carbon account" is a user low-carbon behavior recording system launched by the Meituan Qingshan Initiative in 2023, currently covering green consumption behaviors across delivery, hotel, and cycling scenarios.
To further boost consumer participation and convenience, Meituan has leveraged over 50,000 recycling machines from Aihuishou nationwide to launch the "Autumn's First Cup of Milk Tea" drink cup recycling activity. During the specialized recycling campaign, users can receive an "Autumn Milk Tea Good Cup Coupon" for every three plastic drink cups they deposit. On August 7, "Autumn Milk Tea" themed recycling machines were installed in the Shanghai Xuhui Riverside public open space. Meituan's efforts to recycle and reuse plastic packaging like milk tea cups are not new. Last April, Meituan partnered with beverage brands, industry chain partners, industry organizations, and research institutes to launch the "Good Cup New Life" environmental action. Over the past year, it has driven the participation of over 4 million consumers, cumulatively achieving the recycling and regeneration of over 100 million drink cups. As consumer environmental awareness continues to grow, actively choosing low-carbon products and participating in source separation recycling has gradually become a new trend among consumer groups.
A representative from Meituan stated that the platform has observed a growing number of consumers proactively choosing green consumption methods, such as using reusable cups. "We hope to follow this trend by providing users with more convenient options for green consumption, allowing more users to get involved." The Qingshan Initiative is the industry's first environmental protection action launched by Meituan in 2017, aiming to creatively explore the entire chain of food delivery packaging production, use, recycling, and regeneration, forming a green and sustainable development model that covers the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain and involves multiple participants. To date, the Meituan Qingshan Initiative has collaborated with nearly 40 local recycling companies in 22 provinces and 29 cities to carry out the "Box Convergence" large-scale meal box recycling project, recycling over 45,000 tons of plastic meal boxes, helping to gradually integrate meal box recycling into the socialized recycling system.
