Hui Siu-Hung's Ancestor Was Xu Baiting, Foremost of the Four Great Salt Merchants

TVB announced today (28th) that Hui Siu-Hung passed away peacefully in the early morning due to multiple organ failure caused by cancer, at the age of 76. Born in Hong Kong, China, in 1948, Hui moved to Guangzhou with his father at the age of one to pursue business.

According to TVB reports, his ancestor was Xu Baiting, the foremost of the Four Great Salt Merchants during the Qing Dynasty. His great-grandfather, Xu Yingkui, was a high-ranking official under Empress Dowager Cixi, while his great-aunt was Xu Guangping, the wife of renowned modern Chinese writer Lu Xun.

Hui Siu-Hung once remarked, "Compared to them, I'm truly a withered branch on a great tree and a beggar in a prominent clan—I fall far short of their stature."
