European Stock Indexes Hit Unprecedented Peaks, Fueled by Robust Earnings and Ceasefire Hopes in the Middle East

Deep News00:20

European equity markets reached all-time highs, supported by strong corporate earnings reports, gains in mining stocks, and growing optimism over a potential ceasefire in the Middle East.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 index closed 0.7% higher. Both Italy's FTSE MIB and France's CAC 40 also set new record highs. Shares of Bayer AG advanced 2.4% after the company reported an unexpected profit increase for the second fiscal quarter.

Mining stocks led the rally across Europe, driven by a rise in copper prices. Conversely, online retailer Zalando SE experienced its largest single-day decline on record after reporting second-quarter sales that missed expectations.

Energy stocks moved lower as Brent crude oil prices fell, following positive signals from Qatar regarding a short-term agreement between the U.S. and Iran. The European benchmark index has now set a historic high after rising for four consecutive months, supported by improving economic prospects. Meanwhile, the current earnings season has notably outperformed initial forecasts.
