On January 7, the main dialogue of the "World Mayors Dialogue · Harbin" event was held in the Golden Hall of the Friendship Hall at the Friendship Hotel. At the event, Nam Dong-young, Vice Mayor of Bucheon, South Korea, comprehensively shared the achievements in building a smart city in a high-density urban area and expressed a desire to establish deep cooperative relations with Harbin in core areas such as intelligent transportation, smart security, and environmental governance to jointly enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of both cities.
Nam Dong-young introduced that Bucheon City is located between Seoul and Incheon in South Korea and has the highest population density in the country. It not only boasts well-known cultural IPs such as the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and the International Comics Festival but also has thriving industries in robotics and beauty. By focusing on smart city construction as a core driver, the city has developed a replicable and scalable model for urban governance.
As a key transportation hub in the capital region, Bucheon faces challenges typical of urban development, including traffic congestion and environmental management. To address these urban pain points, Bucheon has established a comprehensive smart city system covering transportation, safety, and environmental governance. Furthermore, the "Bucheon in" mobile platform enables "one-certificate-for-all" services, and the newly launched Smart City Integrated Operations Center allows for visual, dynamic management of the city.
"Harbin, as an important central city in Northeast China, possesses unique advantages and extensive experience in urban construction and industrial development," said Nam Dong-young. He looks forward to establishing a regular exchange mechanism with Harbin, not only to share smart city technology and operational experience but also to engage in cross-border cooperation in cultural industries and medical tourism, achieving mutual benefits through complementary strengths. "I hope that through the 'World Mayors Dialogue · Harbin' platform, our two cities will open a new chapter of all-round cooperation, empowering urban development with intelligence to create a better life for residents in both cities."
