Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance, has expressed strong conviction that Bitcoin will eventually surpass gold as a more significant asset class, projecting that the cryptocurrency could reach $1 million per coin in the not-too-distant future. He emphasized that this milestone will not require the two-and-a-half decades some analysts have suggested, but rather will arrive at a considerably faster pace.
Zhao stated that "Bitcoin reaching $1 million would be a positive development, and it is inevitable," while clarifying that the timeline will be much quicker than many anticipate. He believes the next bull market cycle will see Bitcoin overtake gold in terms of market valuation and perceived importance as a store of value. The current market cap gap between the two assets has already narrowed to roughly 10 times, signaling a shifting landscape in the global financial system.
According to Zhao, the primary obstacles facing Bitcoin's widespread adoption are institutional rather than technological in nature. Countries around the world have already established comprehensive mechanisms for valuing and holding gold reserves, and replacing these established systems will take several years. However, he remains confident that nations will eventually transition toward holding Bitcoin as part of their reserve assets, and this shift will inevitably occur.
Looking ahead, Zhao emphasized that his focus is on Bitcoin's broader real-world utility rather than its price performance alone. This includes achieving large-scale Bitcoin payment adoption across mainstream commerce and establishing the cryptocurrency as a reserve asset within pension funds and other long-term institutional investment portfolios.
