According to a report from foreign media citing informed sources, ByteDance has suspended the global release of its latest video generation model, Seedance 2.0, following a series of copyright disputes with major Hollywood studios and streaming platforms.
The report indicates that ByteDance's legal team is actively working to identify and resolve potential legal issues. Concurrently, engineers are enhancing the model's safety features to prevent it from generating content that could lead to further intellectual property infringements.
Last month, the Motion Picture Association issued two statements demanding that ByteDance "immediately cease infringing activities." American film studios, including Walt Disney, have also taken legal action against the company. In response, ByteDance previously stated it would implement measures to prevent Seedance 2.0 from being used without authorization to violate intellectual property rights.
Specifically, Walt Disney sent a cease-and-desist letter to ByteDance last month, accusing the company of using Disney-owned characters without permission to train and operate Seedance 2.0. This followed the widespread circulation online in China of a video generated by the model depicting Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in a fight scene. Disney also alleged that ByteDance preloaded the Seedance model with a pirated database containing copyrighted characters from franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel, treating these characters as public domain video assets.
As of the time of reporting, ByteDance has not issued an official response regarding the suspension of the model's release.
