Full-Chain Closed Loop! Sineng Electric Completes Station-Level Grid-Forming Function Testing Successfully in Ningxiang, Hunan

Recently, Sineng Electric Co.,Ltd. worked closely with the project owner and Hunan Xiangdian Test and Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Hunan Xiangdian") to successfully complete the full-process grid-connected testing including grid-following, grid-forming, and off-grid operations at the 100MW/200MWh energy storage station in Guanshan, Ningxiang, Changsha. The successful completion of this testing marks that Sineng Electric's grid-forming energy storage technology has successfully entered a new stage of large-scale global promotion and application.

This station is Hunan's first energy storage facility equipped with grid-forming capabilities. Sineng Electric provided the station with new-generation 1250kW modular grid-forming energy storage converters and 5MW converter-transformer integrated units, featuring second-generation enhanced hybrid grid-forming technology.

Prior to the testing, Sineng Electric actively collaborated with an expert panel led by Hunan Xiangdian and comprising authoritative institutions in the grid-forming field, including China Electric Power Research Institute and DNV (Det Norske Veritas) Asia-Pacific Energy Storage Team. Following multiple national and industry-leading standards, after more than three months of multi-round research and technical coordination, the complete testing plan was finalized.

This testing overcame challenges including high on-site temperatures, tight testing schedules, short testing windows, and multi-party coordination requirements. Within just one week, nine major categories and hundreds of test conditions for grid-forming functions were conducted, including frequency and voltage adaptability, triple overload capacity, power control, primary frequency regulation, inertia response, damping control, continuous high and low voltage ride-through, phase angle jump tolerance, and off-grid black start capabilities. All tests were completed successfully in one attempt under DNV's full witness.

Based on the test report issued by Hunan Xiangdian, the solid data and practical support once again verified the leading performance and reliability of Sineng Electric's second-generation enhanced hybrid grid-forming technology.

From self-developed grid-forming testing and verification platforms, China Electric Power Research Institute's hardware-in-the-loop grid-forming testing certification, CQC complete machine grid-forming testing certification, to this station-level grid-forming function testing verification with third-party on-site witnessing, Sineng Electric has taken the lead in the industry to achieve a complete testing verification closed loop for full-stack "true grid-forming" functions.
