After an 18-month renovation, Laneige officially opened its first global flagship store, named "LANEIGE Seoul," in Seoul's Myeongdong district on June 5. This location incorporates multiple AI-powered skin analysis and personalized beauty technologies, representing the brand's largest flagship space to date.
The store's debut coincides with a period of accelerated global expansion for the Laneige brand. As a skincare label under the Amorepacific Group, Laneige has been steadily investing in beauty technology, integrating skin diagnostics with custom manufacturing. The new Myeongdong flagship is a physical manifestation of this strategy, designed to offer a brand experience distinct from traditional product sales.
The store interior features three core customization services. The "Bespoke Lip Sleeping Mask Swirl" service allows customers to choose two scents from ten options, using specialized equipment to create a custom lip mask on-site, with up to 45 possible combinations. The "Bespoke Neo" service utilizes the brand's cushion foundation products and a database of 150 skin tones; it employs color analysis and a manufacturing robot to produce a personalized cushion compact within the store. The "Bespoke Cream Skin" service leverages AI skin analysis technology to assess a customer's skin condition, recommend a hydration solution from 25 possible combinations, and prepare the customized product on-site in approximately 20 minutes.
Laneige stated that LANEIGE Seoul merges the brand's explorations across beauty, technology, and design, aiming to provide customers with a personalized product experience. The flagship store opened to the general public on June 5, following an invitation-only preview from May 29 to June 4 for a select group of globally invited customers who had pre-booked appointments.
From a commercial perspective, the launch of this flagship store represents one of parent company Amorepacific's initiatives to enhance brand differentiation through technological experiences amid intense global competition. Laneige currently faces competitive pressure from Western and Japanese beauty brands in global markets. The effectiveness of these customization services in driving sales growth remains to be seen in the marketplace.
