EU Court Reduces Intel's Antitrust Fine

Deep News12-10

The EU's second-highest court on Wednesday rejected Intel's appeal against a €376 million ($438 million) antitrust fine imposed two years ago for suppressing competition. However, the court reduced the penalty by €140 million.

The General Court of the EU in Luxembourg stated, "The revised amount of €237.10554 million more appropriately reflects the gravity and duration of the anticompetitive conduct in this case."

The European Commission, the EU's competition regulator, issued the fine in 2023. This followed an earlier annulment by the court of a €1.06 billion penalty imposed by the Commission in 2009 for Intel's exclusionary practices against AMD.

The case reference is T-1129/23: Intel Corporation v European Commission.
