Significant changes are being made to several key indices in the A-share market, with the new rules scheduled to take effect soon.
The Shanghai Stock Exchange published a notice on September 24 regarding the revision of the compilation plans for the SSE series of composite indices, according to an announcement.
The indices slated for revision include the SSE Composite Index, the SSE A-Share Index, the SSE Free Float Index, and the STAR Composite Index. The revisions to the compilation plans for these indices and their derivative indices will be implemented on October 26, 2026.
According to the announcement, the Shanghai Stock Exchange and China Securities Index Co., Ltd. have decided to revise the compilation plans for certain SSE series composite indices. The revisions include two main points.
The first is the addition of a weight cap rule stipulating that no single constituent may exceed a 15% weight.
The second is an adjustment to the timing for removing risk-warning securities, changing it from "the next trading day following the second Friday of the month after the risk warning is implemented" to "the next trading day following the second Friday of the month after the risk warning is announced."
The remaining parts of the index compilation plans will remain unchanged.
