As the Double Ninth Festival approaches, to carry forward the traditional Chinese virtues of respecting, loving, and helping the elderly, on the morning of October 16, the 2026 Double Ninth Festival garden party for retired cadres in Qujiang District, hosted by the Organization Department of the Qujiang District Party Committee (Bureau of Retired Cadres), warmly kicked off at the District Retired Cadres Activity Center. More than 600 retired cadres and representatives of the "Five Elders" from across the district gathered together to celebrate the festival.
After the launch ceremony, the garden party officially began. Tailored to the physical and mental characteristics of the retired cadres, the event featured ten fun activities, including riddle guessing, lucky rolling fun, ring toss, pitch-pot, chicken herding, balancing act, reaction clapping, blindfolded fruit recognition, calligraphy DIY, and sachet DIY. The activities were designed to be entertaining, safe, and engaging.
In the riddle area, the seniors pondered quietly and discussed in soft voices, smiling broadly upon guessing correctly. At the lucky rolling game, everyone held their breath in anticipation of good fortune. The ring toss and pitch-pot areas were particularly popular, with the seniors aiming steadily and throwing with precision, drawing continuous cheers. Games like chicken herding, balancing act, and reaction clapping were full of fun, testing both hand-eye coordination and reaction speed. The blindfolded fruit recognition area challenged touch and smell, adding plenty of amusement. The calligraphy DIY area was filled with the fragrance of ink as the seniors wielded their brushes to write blessings for the Double Ninth Festival. In the sachet DIY area, they threaded needles and filled spices to create sachets symbolizing health and well-being.
Each activity offered exquisite small gifts. The seniors participated enthusiastically, showcasing their talents in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, with warmth and cheers filling the venue.
Retired cadre Zhong Riqiang said: "On the occasion of the Double Ninth Festival, the District Party Committee and District Government organized this rich and colorful garden party, and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners were also on hand to provide pulse diagnosis and consultations for the retired cadres. On behalf of all retired cadres and senior comrades, I express my gratitude for the care of the District Party Committee and District Government. Here, I wish all retired cadres a happy holiday, good health, and all the best."
Retired cadre Jin Meiying said: "I came to participate in the Double Ninth Festival activities today. There are many interesting games on site. This event reflects the organization's care for us retired cadres."
In addition to the fun garden activities, the event thoughtfully provided a range of warm services. In the health cabin, physicians from the traditional Chinese medicine clinic were available for pulse diagnosis, answering questions, and providing health guidance. Medical staff were on duty throughout, closely monitoring the health of the seniors. The rest and tea area was stocked with hot tea and candies for everyone to relax, chat, and catch up.
The seniors participated in games in small groups and chatted about daily life, their faces beaming with happy smiles, with warmth flowing throughout the venue.
Do not say it is late in the evening of life; the glow of sunset still fills the sky. This Double Ninth Festival garden party was not only a joyful and fun gathering but also a warm practice of respecting and honoring the elderly. It enriched the spiritual and cultural lives of retired cadres and conveyed the deep care and high respect of the Qujiang District Party Committee and District Government for them. Qujiang District will continue to wholeheartedly serve and support retired cadres, enabling them to learn, enjoy life, and contribute in their later years, and to live out their golden years happily.
