Google and Samsung Unveil AI-Powered Smart Glasses, Targeting Fall Release

Deep News08:41

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google have unveiled the design for a new line of smart glasses, developed in partnership with eyewear companies Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, with plans to launch the product this autumn.

This product will enter a market currently dominated by Meta Platforms, Inc. It represents the first in a series of AI-powered smart glasses where consumers can interact with Google's AI assistant, Gemini, via voice commands—similar to how Meta AI functions on Ray-Ban smart glasses. Models with built-in displays are under development and expected by 2027, but this initial hardware from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster will be primarily audio-based and integrate a camera for Gemini.

When wearing these glasses, users can ask for directions, play music, answer voice calls, listen to notification summaries, add calendar appointments, and request real-time translation from Gemini, among other features. By utilizing data from the camera, users can query detailed information about any object they are looking at. Furthermore, the glasses can capture photos and videos via a button press or voice command, with an LED indicator lighting up to alert people nearby that the camera is active.

Google and Samsung plan to disclose further details regarding privacy protection measures in the coming months. Pricing and the exact launch date for these glasses, a collaboration between tech giants and eyewear manufacturers, have not yet been announced.
