Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR.US) and Anduril are partnering to develop the software required for former President Trump's "Golden Dome" missile defense program, according to a source familiar with the matter on Tuesday. The $185 billion Golden Dome project is designed to establish a space-based defense system capable of intercepting ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles. Hundreds of companies are competing for roles in the initiative's development. Anduril and Palantir have expressed interest in participating since the program's inception. Reports from last year indicated that the two firms were collaborating with SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, on various components of the project. In November, Anduril, along with several other companies, secured six smaller contracts to develop competing missile defense prototypes for the Golden Dome program. The source added that Aalyria Technologies, startup Scale AI, and software firm Swoop Technologies are also involved in the project. Major defense contractors Lockheed Martin (LMT.US), RTX (RTX.US), and Northrop Grumman (NOC.US) had previously joined the program as primary contractors. The project lead announced last week that the total budget had been increased by $10 billion to $185 billion to accelerate the development of crucial space-based capabilities.
