Citi Reiterates Buy Rating on Tencent Holdings with HK$765 Target Price

Deep News12:01

Citi has issued a research report reiterating its Buy rating on Tencent Holdings (00700) with a target price of HK$765.

The investment bank believes that WeChat's "Xiaowei" has a unique positioning that could become China's ultimate consumer AI agent.

Rather than launching a standalone application, Tencent Holdings has natively embedded "Xiaowei" into WeChat, directly leveraging its massive monthly active user base, proprietary social graph, and its already established and proven mini-program e-commerce infrastructure.

The bank notes that compared to Meta assembling third-party connectors, and domestic peers such as Alibaba (09988) potentially facing significant API resistance under China's "walled garden" environment, WeChat's relatively neutral platform positioning and established vertical partnerships are expected to provide an unparalleled distribution and transaction moat.

Similar to Meta's Muse, the bank believes that as China's agentic commerce takes off, "Xiaowei" can unlock substantial long-term monetization opportunities through transaction commissions and advertising.

The bank states that Tencent Holdings has been testing "Xiaowei" agent functionality with selected commercial partners since June, and in the long term is expected to onboard a broader range of ecosystem partners, autonomously executing more complex user flows and transaction actions within WeChat.
