Industry sources indicated on Friday that SK Hynix is evaluating a broader integration of artificial intelligence (AI) to transform its operational processes, following a similar move by Samsung Electronics.

Sources noted that the company's CEO, Kwak Noh-jung, stated at a meeting on Thursday that the firm is seeking to balance the protection of industrial technology with expanding AI adoption, while also assessing the possibility of incorporating external generative AI models.

Kwak remarked, "We are considering the adoption of Microsoft 365 and CoPilot, and are also evaluating the potential internal use of ChatGPT from security and system architecture perspectives."

He further added that the company intends to gradually introduce external AI services in non-core technical areas, with plans to broaden their application over time.

Currently, SK Hynix operates an internal AI service based on an open-source generative AI model.

The company aims to enable its employees to access a wider array of AI models by introducing external generative AI platforms.

Earlier this week, Samsung announced its plan to fundamentally overhaul its workflows and corporate culture by fully integrating external AI into its operations.

Under this initiative, the chief executives of Samsung's various subsidiaries will directly spearhead management innovation efforts, applying AI across eight core business functions.
