The economic vitality and development quality of a metropolitan area are largely reflected in its total GDP. It has been reported that in 2025, the Nanjing Metropolitan Area achieved a regional GDP of 5,672.258 billion yuan, accounting for 4.0% of the national total, consistent with the previous year. Within this, Nanjing City's GDP exceeded 1.9 trillion yuan, representing 34.3% of the metropolitan area's total, an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the previous year.
By the end of 2025, the coverage rate of high-speed and express railways in the Nanjing Metropolitan Area reached 100% across all districted cities, with total railway operating mileage reaching 2,996 kilometers. The area's railway density was nearly 2.7 times the national average. The urban rail transit network in the metropolitan area extended 591.3 kilometers, with nearly 50% consisting of suburban railways. The region has achieved full highway coverage at the county level, with total road mileage exceeding 100,000 kilometers. A total of 22 river-crossing passages have been constructed, and over 70 cross-border bus routes connect cities within the metropolitan area, with bus coverage reaching 92% between Nanjing and its adjacent counties.
Furthermore, integration within the Nanjing Metropolitan Area is accelerating in areas such as industrial innovation collaboration and public service sharing. Since 2021, cities in the metropolitan area have organized more than 300 supply-demand and supply chain matching events in key sectors, attracting over 5,000 enterprises and promoting deeper integration of industrial and innovation chains. During the same period, nine municipal medical institutions in Nanjing have partnered with more than 200 healthcare facilities across the metropolitan area, collectively enhancing regional medical technology and service capabilities.
