As the Lantern Festival arrives, spring brings warmth and a fresh start filled with laughter. To promote China’s outstanding traditional culture, enrich the spiritual lives of residents, and create a festive atmosphere of joy and neighborhood harmony, the N Street Community in Cheng Guan Subdistrict, Binzhou City, in partnership with Binzhou Bajiao Property Management Co., Ltd., successfully held a themed Lantern Festival event titled “Lanterns Reflect Reunion, Adding Joy; Gathering Warms Ten Thousand Homes” at the Dongcheng Xinyuan residential complex on February 26. The event combined traditional customs with fun interactive activities, allowing residents to immerse themselves in the charm of traditional culture, deepen neighborly bonds through interaction, and feel the warmth of community through thoughtful services.
The venue was decorated with vibrant lanterns and colorful ornaments, with red lanterns adorning the space and riddles written on slips of paper swaying in the breeze, creating a rich festive atmosphere. Residents participated enthusiastically, pausing to ponder or exchanging ideas with one another. “These riddles are quite interesting—they challenge the mind while also teaching us about fraud prevention. It’s a win-win,” one resident who guessed a riddle correctly said with a smile. Those who answered correctly proceeded to the prize exchange area to receive small gifts, filling the scene with a strong cultural vibe.
Community staff prepared ingredients in advance and cooked sweet rice dumplings on-site. As the hot dumplings rolled in the pots, a sweet aroma filled the air. Staff handed out bowls of steaming, soft, and sweet rice dumplings to residents, conveying not only the sweetness of the festival but also strengthening the bond between the community and its residents. “The community is so thoughtful. Having a warm bowl of rice dumplings on a cold day warms the heart as well,” an elderly resident remarked while holding a bowl. These small dumplings carried the community’s deep care and heartfelt blessings for its residents.
The game area was especially lively. At the “Catch Good Luck” ring-toss game, residents lined up orderly and tossed rings from behind a designated line. “I didn’t expect to get it on the first try—I’m so happy!” one resident exclaimed, beaming with joy while holding a prize. In the subsequent “Skillful Hands, Pinch the Dumplings” fun competition, participants worked in pairs, using chopsticks to pick up ping pong balls within a 30-second time limit. The pair with the most balls won, testing hand-eye coordination while adding to the festive fun. Cheers and laughter from onlookers rose and fell, bringing the event to a climax.
This Lantern Festival event celebrated round dumplings, challenged minds with riddles, and strengthened the warmth among neighbors. Through traditional customs, the activity allowed residents to relive festive memories while bringing hearts closer together through shared laughter. Moving forward, the N Street Community will continue to use traditional festivals as a platform, focusing on the needs of the elderly, children, and new workforce groups, to organize more down-to-earth, warm, and engaging cultural activities. These efforts aim to enhance residents' sense of fulfillment, happiness, and belonging, making the community a warm harbor for all.
