Construction has officially commenced on the Xiaolan Hexiang Library in Zhongshan. A ceremony marking the start of the project was held on March 16. The library is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Upon opening, it will offer a collection of approximately 800,000 books and 1,000 reading seats, establishing itself as a high-quality public cultural facility serving Xiaolan Town and the northern part of Zhongshan.
The Xiaolan Hexiang Library is being developed with a donation of 110 million yuan from the Zhongshan Jianhua Charity Foundation. The library is located on Ronghua North Road in Xiaolan Town, adjacent to Longshan Park and Binjiang Park. It will occupy a site of 42.9 acres with a total floor area of 11,000 square meters. The facility is planned to house 800,000 volumes and provide 1,000 reading seats. Once completed, it will become a modern cultural landmark integrating reading, learning, cultural exchange, and public welfare services, thereby enhancing the public cultural service system in Xiaolan and the broader northern Zhongshan area.
The library's design deeply integrates the essence of New Lingnan culture with local characteristics of Xiaolan. Its core concept, "Gathering of Five Stars," informs the layout of various functional zones, including a children's reading area, a self-service book reading area, an open-shelf reading area, a special collections area, and an exhibition area. The building's architecture takes the "Xiaolan Chrysanthemum" as its inspiration, resulting in a layered, expansive main structure that resembles blooming petals. For the landscape design, the library leverages the topography of Longshan Hill, incorporating themed landscapes featuring chrysanthemums, kapok trees, and camphor trees to achieve a harmonious blend of scholarly atmosphere and natural beauty.
