According to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower, Alphabet's (GOOGL.US) Gemini AI chatbot app continues to make progress in catching up with OpenAI's ChatGPT. In the week ending November 24, Gemini accounted for 33% of downloads, up from 29% in the previous two weeks.
During the same period, ChatGPT remained the leader with a 42% download share, though this was lower than its 46% and 45% shares in the prior two weeks. Sensor Tower's data excludes downloads from Chinese users.
The report also revealed that ChatGPT still dominates daily usage on mobile apps, with nearly 90% of chatbot user sessions involving the platform. Gemini accounted for 4% of sessions, followed by DeepSeek (DEEPSEEK) and Perplexity.
Google launched Gemini 3 on November 18, and reports suggest the company may introduce ads to the platform. Meanwhile, OpenAI released ChatGPT-5.1 on November 12. Last week, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced a "Code Red" initiative to enhance ChatGPT's quality amid intensifying AI competition.
