Musk stated, "Before the year is out, Grok Imagine will generate a full-length 'Odyssey' film that is historically accurate and true to Homer's art." His post included a brief AI-generated video showcasing several scenes inspired by the classic tale. However, Musk did not disclose the film's runtime, specific production methods, or how Grok Imagine would maintain character, plot, and visual continuity across a full-length movie.
This announcement follows months of public criticism from Musk directed at Nolan's "Odyssey," particularly regarding its casting choices. Musk has previously voiced his opposition to Lupita Nyong'o playing Helen of Troy and criticized other casting decisions. Despite this, Nolan's "Odyssey," starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Lupita Nyong'o, has achieved significant commercial success. According to entertainment industry reports, the film earned approximately $264 million globally during its opening weekend.
The announcement underscores Musk's aggressive push to position Grok Imagine as a tool capable of producing complex, long-form AI video content. However, creating a complete, coherent feature film is vastly more difficult than generating a few seconds or minutes of AI video.
