NIO Founder William Li Announces Over 3,600 Battery Swap Stations Deployed Nationwide, Serving Nearly 94 Million Swaps

From December 5 to 7, the "2025 (23rd) China Entrepreneurs Summit" was held in Beijing. NIO Inc. founder William Li revealed during his speech that the company has invested over RMB 65 billion in R&D over the past 11 years, with a global R&D team exceeding 11,000 members and nearly 10,000 patents filed. Quarterly R&D expenditure averages approximately RMB 3 billion.

NIO has maintained sustained investment in core technologies, including its self-developed autonomous driving chips and vehicle-wide operating system, which took four years to complete. The company also debuted its SkyRide chassis with fully active suspension and established early leadership in intelligent driving.

Moving forward, NIO will focus capital deployment on its charging and battery swap infrastructure, having already invested over RMB 18 billion in this sector. The automaker currently operates more than 3,600 battery swap stations across China, with cumulative swap services approaching 94 million instances. Li expressed confidence that NIO can achieve a rebound through technological innovation and operational efficiency improvements.
