BlackRock Canada Announces March Cash Distributions for iShares ETFs

Deep News03:40

BlackRock Asset Management Canada Limited announced on Wednesday the monthly and quarterly cash distribution plans for its iShares ETFs in March 2026. The record date is March 26, with the payment date set for March 31.

The announced distributions cover multiple ETFs, with some USD-denominated ETF distributions being paid in US dollars.

Taxation of Distributions Distributions from ETFs, including dividends, income, and capital gains, are taxable to investors regardless of whether they are paid in cash or reinvested in the fund. The types of distributions may include interest income, Canadian dividends, capital gains, and capital returns. Capital returns are not taxed immediately in the year received but reduce the investor's adjusted cost base, which may result in a larger capital gain or a smaller capital loss upon a future sale.

Reinvested Distributions For distributions that are reinvested, iShares ETFs consolidate the outstanding units after the distribution, so the number of units held by an investor remains unchanged, and the net asset value per unit does not change. However, investors should add the amount of the reinvested distribution to their adjusted cost base to avoid double taxation.

BlackRock Canada typically provides tax component information to CDS by the end of February each year, which investors can use to obtain their tax slips. For tax-related questions, investors are advised to contact their brokerage firm directly.
