A user from Shanxi province recently reported that after disabling the payment function of her Alipay account, approximately 1.84 million yuan was inexplicably deducted for donations. She stated that her efforts to resolve the issue over the past three years have been unsuccessful. Lan Xiaohong from Shanxi explained that on October 19, 2023, she followed customer service guidance to disable the payment function of her Alipay account due to abnormal activity on account "1661341" (linked to mobile number 136****0044). Two days later, between 3:00 AM and 7:00 AM on October 21, six unauthorized deductions occurred from her account, all directed as donations to charitable organizations. One of these transactions was for 1.84 million yuan, donated to the China Foundation for Rural Development. Upon discovering the deductions that morning, she immediately sought recourse. Lan raised the question of how payments could be made after she had disabled Alipay's payment function. She noted that despite receiving assistance from the People's Bank of China over the past two years, she has been unable to recover the 1.84 million yuan. An investigation assisted by the People's Bank of China found that among the six transactions in question, the critical 1.84 million yuan donation was completed using a computer device that verified the payment password. The bank confirmed that as of the date of their response, the payment function on Lan's account remained disabled. It is understood that when an Alipay account's payment function is disabled, users cannot make payments for consumption or transfers, but the payment function for charitable donation scenarios remains active. On May 14, 2026, Alipay staff indicated that the handling progress of this matter had been communicated to Lan Xiaohong. According to reports, relevant personnel from Alipay stated that since receiving Lan's report in 2023, they have engaged multiple times to address the issue and ultimately suggested she seek resolution through judicial channels. Regarding the cause of the "bizarre donation," the matter would be escalated to authorized management for verification. Documents from the China Foundation for Rural Development show that the foundation recently responded that the aforementioned 1.84 million yuan has been used for the "Donate One Yuan, Show Love, Send Nutrition" campaign and has been fully executed. If evidence can be provided, the foundation is willing to verify upon receiving complete official supporting materials and ultimately determine whether it meets the conditions for a refund. On May 14, a representative from the foundation stated that after verification with Alipay, the company informed the foundation that the "1.84 million yuan donation was a normal transaction."
