Haier Smart Home has released its 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, detailing a year of accelerated progress in climate strategy, supply-chain collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
Key environmental milestones • Carbon-neutral pledge: Haier Smart Home targets carbon-neutral operations no later than 2050; two subsidiaries—Qingdao Haier Special Freezer and Haier Europe—already have Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation. • Renewable energy expansion: 216,802.05 MWh of green electricity consumed in 2025, raising the renewable share to 8.36 % of total energy usage. • “6-Green” lifecycle strategy: 27 national-level green factories, 13 lighthouse factories (including one sustainable lighthouse), 10 zero-waste/zero-landfill sites and five zero-carbon factories now in operation. • Circular economy results: Over 8 million end-of-life home appliances collected in 2025, lifting total units recycled to almost 30 million; annual material regeneration exceeds 30,000 tonnes with a 95 % reuse rate, cutting approximately 17,000 tCO₂e each year.
Climate risk and resilience • A three-tier climate governance structure—Board, Climate Change Committee and specialised task forces—oversees strategy, target-setting and execution. • Company-wide scenario analysis indicates low financial materiality from climate risks; focus areas include rising energy costs and physical risks from extreme weather.
Social performance • Global workforce of about 135,000 employees across 50+ countries; women represent 27.5 % of staff and 15.1 % of management. • Average of 71.90 training hours per employee; 100 % workforce received occupational health and safety training. • Zero workplace fatalities for the third consecutive year and 1,579 safety training sessions delivered. • Comprehensive benefits include extended parental leave, psychological support and employee relief funds.
Supply-chain stewardship • Supplier performance scorecard covers ESG, with 95 % of procurement spend audited; 1,607 suppliers hold ISO 9001 certification and 932 hold ISO 14001. • Zero tolerance for conflict minerals; 1,607 suppliers surveyed with none found using tin, tungsten, tantalum or gold from conflict-affected areas.
Governance and ratings • Board-level ESG Committee oversees strategy; four independent directors account for 36 % of the Board. • MSCI reaffirmed an AA ESG rating, the highest among Chinese home-appliance peers; the company remains a constituent of Hang Seng’s ESG Enhanced indices.
Community impact • Cumulative 406 Hope Schools supported; 2025 donations and community investments totalled RMB 8.49 million, with RMB 0.61 million directed to rural revitalisation.
Outlook Haier Smart Home will deepen low-carbon product R&D, target 15 % renewable energy by 2030 and continue supplier decarbonisation initiatives, aiming to solidify its position as a global green-smart manufacturing leader.
